The project that wasn’t planned. That’s the opening description of Donnie’s 1964 Thunderbird. Warning: when surfing ads and websites, beware, because sometimes a great deal or a great vehicle, though unintended, just grabs attention and takes control of the imagination.
Donnie Baird took a great leap of faith while checking in on the H.A.M.B. While not seriously looking for another project, an ad appeared, singing an irresistible siren song by a California ‘Bird. It was quickly purchased as a birthday gift for his wife, Jennifer. For the sum of $200, he brought it home, where it sat untouched for two years. It looked somewhat forlorn, with over one-third of the parts missing, but Donnie never failed to visualize the potential. He slowly amassed the missing items through a number of sources, again tapping into the H.A.M.B. to purchase from Owen’s Salvage in Texas, after getting quite a bit donated by his buddy and fellow H.A.M.B.’er Sean Denton.
With all the H.A.M.B. activity on this car, perhaps Donnie should be called a “HAMBird!”
