A Matter of Perspective

Luck can be a matter of perspective. In a duel or a race, one can be lucky and win, and the other unlucky and lose. You can be lucky to hit, and lucky to miss. The color green is often associated with luck, yet green cars are said to be unlucky. For Colorado’s Dick Rush, green just might be his lucky color. You be the judge.

First, the car. It’s a ’29. It’s green. It’s old. Luck may or may not have had a part in the recent trailer incident that left the rear fender crunched. Luck also may or may not have had a part in the fact that it is an untouched survivor from the 60’s. The reason that it sat untouched for so long is that the motor was stuck. This could be viewed as unlucky for whoever parked it, and lucky for whoever found it.

Research has guesstimated that the car was built in or around Pasadena in 1955 or ’56. The original builder is thought to have been a fellow named Cody Davidson. He is responsible for the car’s transformation into a hot rod and adapting the Olds motor. It originally ran in primer with a single four-barrel. Rumor has it that the car received a green lacquer paint job and six Strombergs in late 1956.
