FIRst annual JALOPY drags, 2007!

The end of September has just started a new tradition for me. Just like the end of May always means the Jalopy Showdown in Latimore PA, a new tradition has begun at a race track in Beaver Springs. 2007 marked the first year for the Jalopy Drags, and show promoter Larry Garland teamed up with track owner "Beaver Bob" Mc Cardle to start, what I believe to be, the re-birth of nostalgia racing. Very strong words, I know. But looking around at the tracks today, I can't think of many that would do what Bob has done, and that is to let people race for fun! Traditional Rod and Kulture Illustrated helped sponsor the event this year, and will continue to in the future.

When Larry started the Jalopy Showdown in Latimore PA, he had the perfect location; a scenic dirt track that had a great atmosphere to it. The Jalopy Drags has that same feel. The track is located in Beaver Springs PA, near Harrisburg, nestled in the mountains. It's a gorgeous part of the state. Add to that, the great attitude of Bob and his staff and his willingness to let Larry run the show and the result was an event that worked perfectly.
