Four years ago, Bill Miller was looking for a new project path, after spending his time with motorcycles. At the bookstore, he found a title How To Build a Traditional Hot Rod, along side a rodding magazine. Inspired, he knew he had found his new path. He stopped in at Brothers Custom Automotive (Troy, Michigan), with a very used-up Flathead engine. Since shop owner Bill Jagenow has built more than 30 Flatties, he's earned the reputation as the "go-to guy" for the process. Jagenow recalls: "When the owner dragged in this very used-up engine, the '49-53 type looked dismal, all coated in orange. It was identified as a cheap find, as the owner confessed to acquiring for only $100.00. Upon dismantling, we found that the owner got lucky, as the '52 block had a Merc' crank."
