Some of you might be looking at the beautiful maroon 40 Mercury on these pages and be saying to yourself "damn that car looks familiar"; while others of you might instantly recognize it as the Sam Barris- built "Matranga Merc" that won the 1951 Oakland auto show. Well, you'd be forgiven for that error. It does indeed bare a remarkable resemblance to the Merc built in the Barris brother's shop for customer Nick Matranga in 1950, and that is precisely the idea. What you are looking at here is a very well built clone of the famous Barris built custom, put together by noted Barris restorer Dave Conrad from Valley Park Missouri and now owned by avid car collector/ refurbisher/ customizer Ted Burleson.
